This course covers Introduction to Phlebotomy: phlebotomy and phlebotomist definition, purpose, essential blood collection skills; roles and responsibilities of a phlebotomist. Ethical and Legal Aspects of Phlebotomy: ethical principles and professional conduct in phlebotomy; legal responsibilities and accountability of the phlebotomist. Safety and Infection Control: standard precautions in phlebotomy; sharps safety and waste management. Basic Anatomy and Physiology of Blood and the Vascular System: anatomy and physiology of blood; anatomy and physiology of the vascular system for venipuncture. Blood Collection and Cannulation Techniques: venipuncture procedure, equipment, and order of draw; capillary blood collection methods and cannulation. Special Populations and Specimen Management: phlebotomy techniques for pediatric, geriatric, and difficult venous access; sample management. Common Phlebotomy Errors and Prevention Strategies: pre-analytical and collection technique errors; specimen quality issues and safety errors.
