Course Description

This course introduces postgraduate students to the philosophical, theoretical, historical, and practical foundations of curriculum theory and design. The course examines traditional and contemporary curriculum theories, models of curriculum development, dimensions of curriculum design, competency-based education (CBE), curriculum implementation, assessment, evaluation, and emerging trends in curriculum innovation. Special emphasis is placed on the Kenyan Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and Competency-Based Higher Education (CBHE). Contemporary curriculum reforms in Kenya emphasize learner-centered approaches, authentic assessment, and development of competencies for lifelong learning

The course shall involve weekly lectures and bi-weekly assignments. Learners shall form three groups 1) Science and Mathematics, 2) Social Sciences - CRE, Kiswahili and History, and 3) English Language and Literature. The group is expected to jointly work on the assignment and select a representative to give a 25 minutes presentation on the topic to be assigned.
